My last blog post dealt with the importance of credibility in the Michigan drivers license appeal process.  To review, credibility can be thought of as believability.  In other words, would the hearing officer evaluating and deciding your case believe your testimony?  As any Michigan license lawyer will tell you, credibility is absolutely essential if you are to win your case.

Let’s take some examples I have seen, unfortunately, many times.  An individual represents himself or herself (without an attorney) in a drivers license restoration Michigan case.  At the hearing, the petitioner’s (the petitioner is the person seeking a license) testimony contradicts some evidence that the petitioner submitted.  For example, maybe that petitioner’s testimony contradicts some of the letters.  Another example would be the petitioner’s testimony contradicting one of his or her witnesses at the hearing.  A final example is the petitioner exaggerating his or her testimony to try to make a point.

As any Michigan drivers license reinstatement lawyer knows, these types of mistakes are often fatal.  The above examples illustrate the importance of establishing your credibility, as a further consequence of a loss of believability is that one may be treated with skepticism at any subsequent hearings.

You may wish to consult with a lawyer about your Michigan drivers license restoration case, including any questions you might have regarding the kind of evidence to submit, whether to have witnesses testify in your case, and your testimony at the hearing.
