So you’ve got a couple of drunk driving convictions and you’re looking for work. Should you be concerned that the DUI convictions could cause you to lose out on a job that you are looking for? This is a question that most Michigan license lawyers get.  The answer is that it probably depends upon what kind of job you’re looking for.

Typically, employers will require job applicants to fill out an application requiring them to disclose criminal convictions. Often, they will verify your answers by doing a background check of your criminal convictions and driving record. It goes without saying you will probably lose out on any job where an employer finds out you failed to disclose a conviction.

What type of jobs might you lose out on because of your convictions? If your license is currently revoked and you’re unable to drive because of your DUI convictions, a potential employer is obviously not going to hire you for a job that requires you to drive. So, for example, you’re not going to be able to get a job driving a taxi, truck or company vehicle. However, as any Michigan drivers license attorney knows, employers have a more difficult decision when the initial job you’re applying for does not require driving, but the next job promotion would require you to drive.  If you find yourself in this situation, you may wish to point out that you plan on consulting with a Michigan driver license lawyer to start the Michigan drivers license restoration process to restore your driving privileges. If you have already started the drivers license restoration Michigan process it will look even more impressive to a prospective employer.  This may be enough to convince an employer to go ahead and hire you.
